As part of the GPE KIX, (IDRC) funded project “Scaling Impact of a Play-Based Child-to-Child Approach to Make Pre-School to Primary School Transition Fun and Inclusive” (SIPCA), a collaborative field visit was conducted in Islamabad, Pakistan, from February 16th to 22nd, 2025. A total of 51 participants from Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, including researchers, ministry officials, and teachers from participating schools, gathered to gain practical exposure to the implementation of the Child-to-Child (CtC) model.
During this six-day visit, participants visited a total of 16 schools and observed conducting of the CtC sessions in the schools. Participants got the opportunity to talk with the teachers, young learners, and young facilitators and learn from their first-hand experience in executing the model in the respective schools. Moreover, participants also had meetings with the school principals / headteachers to discuss possibilities and challenges of carrying out the CtC model.
Along with the visits, the participants had debriefing sessions in which reflections were made on the learnings acquired from the visits and discussed ways in which the learning can be adopted in the participants’ own contexts. In addition to this, Cities for Children, the NGO which leads the CtC model implementation in Islamabad shared insights from their experience of executing the model in the schools.
This field visit is a crucial component of the SIPCA project in preparing teachers for implementation of the CtC model in the respective research contexts.
